The Infinix Hot 12I was released around April 2022 by Infinix mobile. The smartphone which is based on the Android operating system has been circulating in the African market since its release.
Last week I was opportune to get one in other to make a review of it. One of the main reasons I bought it was because of its ability to mount some of the ROM ( read-only memory) storage as RAM (random access memory).
If you are the techy type, you would agree with me that this ability to use part of the ROM space as RAM is not a new thing in the android biosphere.
In this article, we will not only be talking about expanding the RAM using the ROM storage, but we will also talk about the Infinix Hot 12I and its variant.

Design and display
The new Infinix Hot 12I is built with plastic material. At the front of the hot 12i is its huge 6.6 IPS screen and a resolution of 720*1612, at the top of the screen is its 8.0mp front-facing camera. On the back left-hand side of the Hot 12I are its triple rear camera and a fingerprint sensor beside it.

The back of the Infinix Hot 12I looks a little bit different from past models. You can easily distinguish the Hot 12I from other previous models due to its unique camera area design. At the bottom side of the Infinix Hot 12I is its headphone jack, type B charging port, mouthpiece, and loudspeaker.

Camera
The Hot 12I comes with a 13MP triple rear camera and an 8MP front camera. The 13MP main back camera is supported by two extra cameras. I can’t tell what the other two cameras do because Infinix Mobility did not specify what they do.
But one thing I know is that they support the main camera in one way or the other to make photos good. I took some pictures with the 13MP back camera and they were lovely. Everything about the 13MP back camera seems to fall at the right place it is good no doubt.

While on the other hand, the Infinix Hot 12I front 8MP camera seems to have a little problem taking pictures in an area with low sunlight. From the picture below you could notice the Hot 12I is finding it difficult to get a clearer picture of me. But as soon as I moved over to the window the picture becomes clearer.

Hardware and software
The Infinix Hot 12I comes loaded with GAPPS (Google applications). But some of the google apps were ditched and replaced with the XOS 7.6 applications. Also, the Infinix hot 12I runs on the latest android version which is Android 11.
As usual, Infinix made use of their custom UI XOS and not the likes of Google Pixels and Nokia smartphones which are based on stock UI ( Android stock UI).
From this, we move over to the hardware area. Hot 12I comes with different varieties of sizes of ROM depending on your pocket size. The Hot 12I are of three different models but it seems like the X665 (Hot 12I) model has the largest share of memory.
It supports a ROM size of 64GB and RAM size of 4GB while others have a Storage size of 64GB ROM 2GB RAM and 64GB 3GB RAM.
Talking about the RAM the Hot 12I supports RAM expansion. Like I said at the beginning of this article it’s not new if you are the techy type.
ROM to RAM expansion has been around for over 10 years ago then different RAM expander applications were launched by different android developers. I made use of one of the software. You will need to be rooted to be able to use your ROM as part of the RAM then.

What this does then was to create a swap file on your ROM and also give permission for the android to be able to move minimized applications to it. But then it was kind of slow but effective.
Here we are, Infinix is adding it to Hot 12I settings, and it is easily accessible. The best part about this is that you can increase your 4GB RAM size to a maximum of 7GB RAM, and it doesn’t require rooting. I love this!
Battery and network
In the network aspect, the Hot 12I supports 2G, 3G, and also 4G broadband. No 5G broadband is available on this one.
Moving over to the battery aspect, the Infinix Hot 12I comes with a huge 5000mah battery.

I am amazed at the battery strength, the Hot 12I can last a day on medium usage. According to Infinix the Hot 12I comes with a talk time of 34 hours and a standby time of 62 days waw! I am not sure about this because I haven’t tried them out, but all I can say is that the battery is super cool.

What I like about the infinix hot 12i
Huge battery: The Infinix Hot 12I comes with a huge 5000mah battery that will take you a day on medium usage. Also, it comes with a battery power-saving feature to manage power consumption.
Nice design: I love the back camera design. I also love the concept of putting the headphone jack, mouthpiece, speaker, and charging port below.

Ram expansion: Like I said earlier ram expansion has been around for over 9 years, I made use of the RAM expansion application with my first android smartphone, but to do this you need root access.
Look what we have today, Infinix unleashed this feature on the XOS UI. And I also believe more devices from Infinix and other companies will follow suit.
Large storage: The HOT 12I has a large 64GB storage size.
What needs to be improved on the Infinix hot 12i
Camera: The Hot 12I back camera is okay but the front camera cant take nice pictures when there’s not enough light in the room.
No 5G network: I know Infinix knows very well that most of their smartphones are being bought by Africans, and I know most of the African countries are not yet ready for the installation of the 5G service.
But here in Nigeria, we are working on getting the 5G network available to all the states in Nigeria. I don’t see any reason why in 2022 a smartphone of 70000+ Naira won’t come with 5G network support. It is so disheartening!
Where to buy the Infinix hot 12i smartphone
You can buy the hot 12i on Jumia.
Conclusion
The Infinix Hot 12I is a beautiful smartphone that comes with a feature to expand the RAM space using the ROM. The Hot 12I supports an expansion of RAM up to a maximum of 7GB.
Also, from my observation, the Hot 12I 8MP front camera can’t take a clear picture when there’s not enough light in the room or area. Mind you, the Hot 12I doesn’t support the 5G network and it is not a gaming smartphone.
But it will handle most games on the play store including PUBG. Talking about the battery aspect, the Hot 12I can go all day on medium usage.
