Some time ago, I wrote an article on how to test and also enable vibration on computer gamepads. Lately, we have been receiving emails and messages on how to enable gamepad vibration when playing a game.
Today we will be looking at two things.
- How to emulate your gamepad as Xbox gamepad
- How to enable vibration feedback in gameplay
Some of you have noticed the Xbox application and logo pop up when you want to launch a game on your windows. That is because Xbox is owned by Microsoft and Windows too. Windows support Xbox gamepads. Most of the pads in stores, like Ucom gamepads, find it hard to configure, especially if you are not the techy type. If they even work, you will notice some buttons don’t configure automatically.
Some games do create a space for manual configuration, which makes it easier to configure for gamepads that are not Xbox brands. Games like the far cry 3 are already configured only for the Xbox gamepad, and no space for manual configuration. But not to worry, with the x360ce application, you can emulate the Xbox gamepad how?
For those who are new to emulators. Emulators are software or applications that copy or imitate, for example, the Ppsspp emulator. It could also be an operating system, like the Bluestacks android emulator or something else. The X360ce will emulate your gamepad like an Xbox gamepad, which means your PC will see your generic or other gamepads brand as an Xbox gamepad.
How to emulate your gamepad as an Xbox gamepad using X360ce
For you to be able to emulate your gamepad as an Xbox gamepad you need to download an application called x360ce emulator. This application is built to emulate Xbox gamepad and also map gamepads to computers.
First of all, you need to download x360ce through their website here, click on the download for all games. After you must have finished downloading accept all terms and conditions. Launch the application as “administrator” to do this move your mouse to the application click on the right mouse button you will see a list of options. Move down to “Run as administrator” click on it and accept to run as administrator. You will see something like the image below after a fresh installation.
After installation you will see a notification with the “issue” sign located after the game search bar, now click on the issue. Your 360ce application will list out some problems which need to be fixed depending on issues found by the x360ce application. Mostly you are likely to see just one issue like mine. If yours is like mine, click on the download button to fix it, if it’s not then follow the procedure on your screen.
Secondly, plug in your gamepad then click on add game, it is located at the top right of your screen beside “save all” locate and select the game you want to play then okay then you wait for it to load. “Enable 1 mapped device” and also “Get input state” After that click on the add button beside the remove button located at the right end of the screen. You will see available control options, thick only your gamepad, and untick everything else then click on okay or accept.
You should see a blue line with the controller name you selected written on the blue line if you followed these steps correctly.
Move down to the Xbox gamepad image at the middle of the screen, click on each button on the Xbox gamepad on your screen. Click the same button on your gamepad, do this repeatedly until you have completely mapped all the buttons. Now you need to minimize the x360ce application and open the game you configured, or click on “games” which is located at the top after options. Remember don’t kill or close the x360ce application as it is always advisable to minimize as it uses less battery power when minimized.
How to enable vibration feedback in gameplay using x360ce emulator
For you to enable vibration feedback in gameplay you must make sure your game and gamepad support vibration feedback. I wrote an article on how to know, test, and enable computer gamepad vibration, go through it follow all procedures then come back here to continue the process.
After you must have followed all procedures from my last article on gamepads vibration, download the x360 application through their link HERE. Then click on the “download for all games”. After you must have finished downloading, accept all terms and conditions. Launch the application as administrator, to do this move your mouse to the application, click on the right mouse button you will see a list of options move down to “Run as administrator” click on it and accept to run as administrator. You will see something like the image below after a fresh installation.
After installation, you will see a notification with the “issue” sign located after the game search bar. Click on the issue, it will list out some problems which need to be fixed depending on your computer. But in most cases, you are likely to see just one issue like mine. If yours is like mine, click on the download button to fix it, if it’s not, then follow the procedure on your screen.
Secondly, plug in your gamepad, click on add game, it is located at the top right of your screen beside “save all” Locate and select the game you want to play, then click okay. Wait for it to load, “enable 1 mapped device” and also “Get input state” after enabling those, click on the add button beside the remove button located at the right end of the screen, it will display Speedlink strike gamepad like the image below.
Untick all controllers, then tick only speed link strike gamepad, then accept. After that, start mapping by clicking each button on the Xbox gamepad displayed at the center of the x360 application. And also by pressing the buttons back on your gamepad. Under the blue line where the speed link gamepad is written, you will see another option below, which starts with “general” scroll right and click on force feedback. You will see something like the picture below.
Tick on enable. You can test your gamepad vibration too by moving the bar in the “test” area. Click on games, then click on the game you want to play, then click on the start button at the right. If you have successfully done that congratulation, you have enabled vibration in gameplay.
I just noticed most times when you click on the play-game button the x360 automatically disconnects. If you are facing this issue just ignore the play button, after setting up your gamepad just click on the minimize button then launch the game on desktop or where ever you kept it.
If you still can’t configure your gamepad, or you are stuck somewhere you can reach us through the comment section.
